Now and then I peruse the local thrift stores searching for vintage cotton sheets to use for donation baby quilts and yesterday I found a soft, warm cotton flannel sheet that will be perfect for the backs to my baby quilts.
I realized while I was wandering the thrift shops that there were a lot of really neat vintage silk ties available, which made me think of using them to create hexies or perhaps crazy quilts. So I've slowly been adding colorful silk ties to my fabric collection and when I have a spare moment, I carefully take them apart using my seam ripper so that they will be ready to use.
I fused a lightweight interfacing to one of the silk ties and then ran it through Go! cutter using the hexagon shape. Last night I started sewing the hexies and I like the sheen and strong colors of the silk fabric. First off I think I'll create some colorful silk coasters for our family room and living room.
Enjoy your day,
Judy

Hello Judy - I have several bags of silk ties that I have picked up over the years with the intention of making a quilt - one day!! I am glad that you have made a start on yours.
A great idea! Can't wait to see them all "hexied" together.
I have a little collection of silk ties as well and never thought of using them for hexes , they would be beautiful . Have fun!
