An Improv Sampler Quilt Top

Lately several bloggers have posted photos of lovely sampler quilts that they are working on which made me think of making one-only I thought why not make an improv sampler quilt? I'd like to be able to say that it all went together swimmingly, but there were several sections that were ripped out and redone. And the circle around the mariner's compass, well, let's just say it gave me fits! Curved piecing is my nemesis....

Here's my version of a sampler quilt done in an improv style:

The winter here has been rather disappointing with hardly any snow or cold weather. I hate to say this as so many of you are buried under snow, but for us here in Boise, there really haven't been many opportunities to ski on decent snow. Okay, I'll stop whining ;-) On the upside, due to the unseasonably warm weather, our flowers are starting to put on a nice show and it's been lovely weather for riding my bike.

We had a visit from several dark-eyed juncos, which are always neat to see.

Here's hoping that you have time for fabric/fiber today,
Judy

  3. Judy, I look at your sampler quilt with open mourh, it's formidable! So many little pieces...I remember there is a book telling a story of three women, three generations sewing a quilt....
Here we had also little snow, and today and tomorrow there will be over 60F, so we're going to work in the garden. Best for you, Birgit

  4. Gorgeous quilt Judy! Wow!! Sorry about the weather - I know how it can disappoint. We too have lovely crocus at the moment - the colour is very welcome. It has been very warm here for the last few days so we make the most of it to crack on with garden jobs. xx

  5. Oh I just love your Improv Sampler Judy!!! So bold and beautiful :) I sure would have loved to send you all some of our winter, but I suspect what we got was just "hard" for us - you would have thought it pretty paltry I bet. Since we're not used to it, we whine a lot LOL!!! I'm thinking the last of the ugly stuff has passed through maybe - I smell a definite touch of spring in this morning's air!

  6. Oh, my goodness! Your quilt is just fabulous!!!
Sorry to hear you haven't had the snow you would like. We don't get much in NC so any that we do get I really enjoy. I have the juncos here too.
