Losing A Friend

Yesterday I lost my canine buddy to cancer.
We thought that we'd have more time with him,
but it wasn't meant to be.

Sam was my hiking buddy,
always ready to head out the door for a long walk.

He loved the water,
and he'd jump in it even in the winter.

Why is it that our canine friends have such short lives?
Our mistake is that we think that we will have more time....

Sam loved to go with me in my SUV,
and every back window has large dog smudges on it.

And the dog hair coated everything,
but I didn't care,
because he was a good companion to me.
He was my shadow,
following me wherever I went each day.

You will be dearly missed,
my friend.
