Eight Shaft Plaited Twill Kitchen Towels
I saved a partial 8/2 cotton warp from a previous project.
It’s been hanging on my weaving room wall for a couple of years now,
so I think that it’s a good time to finally put it to use to weave kitchen towels.
After spending some time perusing my eight shaft weaving drafts
I decided to go with the plaited twill draft, #355, from the book,
A Weaver’s Book of 8-Shaft Patterns.
I’m weaving these kitchen towels on my Louet Jane table loom.
I started out by threading two ends of yarn through each dent
in a 12 dent reed for 24 ends per inch
and then I spent a couple of hours threading the heddles.
Then I wound on the warp, with the help of my husband, Marshall.
I discovered one threading error in the center,
fixed that and then it was time to weave.
I’ve never woven this draft before
and I really like the effect,
especially with the 16/2 black linen weft that I’m using for the first towel.
I’m enjoying watching the pattern develop as the cloth builds.
It feels really good to be throwing the shuttle and weaving again.
Weave on,
Judy
Project notes:
1) 8/2 cotton warp ranging from butter yellow to wine, 506 ends with two floating
2) 21 inch width in my reed with 24 epi threaded 2 ends to a dent using a 12 dent reed
3) 16/2 linen yarn for first towel
Isn't that lovely, like a basket weave. Gorgeous autumn colours too. xx
