Weaving An Unique Twill Scarf

I noticed in my weaving notebook that it’s been three years

since I’ve woven any scarves.

I’m changing that with this warp of 8/2 Tencel

that I measured out three years ago.

It’s an interesting mix of colors that I decided to play with

and I found myself wondering what colors I wanted to use in the weft.

This is what I decided to go with,

blending colors/textures on my blending board

to create Merino/Polwarth/silk rolags to spin.

I used one of my Jenkins’ cross arm spindles to spin the rolags.

I decided to brighten the yarn by plying it
with a cream Polwarth roving that I spun.

This is my largest cross arm spindle, maker unknown, that I use for plying.
Somewhere over the past 22 years that I’ve been spinning,
I was given this, but I don’t recall the details.

A finished handspun turtle of yarn,
waiting to be wound on to a bobbin.

I decided to go with a four shaft vertical pointed twill for my weave structure
and I’m weaving this on my Louët Jane loom,
which is just a joy to weave on.

I like the contrast between light/dark
and the variation in colors between the warp/weft.
The handspun yarn is softly spun,
so I think this scarf is going to feel wonderful around my neck.
I love the idea that it’s totally unique.

Weave on,
Judy
