This first scarf was woven on my Louët Jane loom
using a 2/2 twill variation for the weave structure.
The warp was measured out three years ago
and I’m finally getting around to weaving it.
The warp is 8/2 Tencel
and the weft is some lovely Targhee wool
that was dyed by Woolfiend and handspun by me.
I’m really happy with the hand
or feel of this scarf.
It’s soft, warm and feels wonderful to wear.
It’s now in Tokyo with our son
and he’s jazzed with it as it has his favorite colors in it.
The second scarf was an experiment-
I plied a white/baby blue handspun singles yarn
to a brilliant blue singles yarn.
I used this for the weft for the second scarf that I wove.
Same warp, but what a different weft!
The white adds an aspect of sparkle to the scarf which I rather like.
I twisted the fringe after cutting it
with a rotary cutter to a 6 inch (15 cm) length.
For the weavers out there:
1) scarf length was 75 inches by 9.5 inches wide
2) sett was 16 epi
3) warp was 8/2 Tencel in various blues/silver/white
4) weft was handspun yarn measuring 15 wpi, between a lace and a fingering yarn
5) fringe was cut 6” and then twisted using two groupings of four ends each
6) fulled in warm water and then air dried
I know that traditionally Tencel yarn is sett closer together,
but I’ve found after years of weaving with it,
that I prefer a more open sett when weaving scarves
so that the soft wool weft is more dominant.
It makes the scarf warmer and softer.
Weave on,
